One of my all time favorite books. I purchased another for my teens. They stayed interested.
This book helped me out at transitional time in my life. I am reading it now to help me through a new stage.
I purchased this book for my 19 yr old son....read a couple of chapters before giving it.to him and Loved it....I can only pray that my son actually reads the book. He did say he started it and its good.
What an inspiring powerful source! Who knew that this man could be all and everything that he is! AND at the same time, unveil to us that it isn't the stuff, it's the process; it isn't the material reward, it's the work. The pleasure is in the WORK and the CONTRIBUTION that we are to others. And that the music poo-bah and "ostensibly-low-on-the-totem-pole dishwasher" have the same opportunity, at despair or joy it is always our choice.
And did I mention that this extraordinary man is ALSO vegan, of yoga, loves animals and a great supporter of PETA, and, according to what is humanly said about him--"ALWAYS courteous AND authentic in ALL his relationships, whether they be at work or friendship."
Crabby, critical, cautious, cynical me--I've been blown open by the Russell's speaking (which is how the book occurs it's Russell speaking to me)!

For all wanna be Entrepreneurs this is a must read. It shows you that if you just stay focused on your goal, not someone else, you will be OK. I just wish it would have been written earlier. Very inspirational, on how if you just Do You, you can still succeed beyond your wildest dreams. In most cases you fail your way to success. . With failure comes doubt and a waiver in one's belief. After reading Do you, it gives you the motivation to stay focused on your goal at hand.
I conduct seminars on Real Estate and most come in with the idea that they will be able to outsmart the system and become rich overnight. Since I have read this book I have it mandatory for First Time Investors read. It gives you a clear example that no matter what the situation at hand is, you can succeed if you first believe in what you are doing. It also helps if you are doing it because you have some affinity to what you are doing, not just for the money.
Most fail in my business due to the fact that they have little passion for what they are doing. Mr. Simmons gave me the added confidence to expand my business. In closing for those who do not like to read I bought the book and also a copy of the audio book to really get what he felt. The audio is good because during your drive you can listen to something motivational instead of all the negativity you hear on the news or the radio. This book is not about the sure way to get rich quick, rather this book is about what Russell Simmons believes are the ways that helped him achieve success. He mentions that the 12 laws that he uses may not fit you, but instead can help you to form your own laws and guiding principles that will help you in your journey to success. One key element that stood out to me in this book was the fact that he stressed that a college degree does not always equal success but rather it is the vision that one should have in order to achieve those goals. Without the vision, you have nothing. It is important to stay focused on your vision to achieve those goals. Simmons stressed that by having the vision in order to achieve the goals followed by strong principles that you live and stick to day to day will allow for success to take place.
