STAAR Physics Study Guide ... The purpose of this study guide is to reinforce all the equations on S.T.A.A.R Physics reference chart. This study guide reviews or teaches all the fundamentals for each equation(concept) on the reference chart. The fundamentals reviewed include terminology, units, and problem solving skills. Each section provides interactive tables and practice problems followed by a mini quiz for each equation on the reference chart. Each practice problem is solved using a specific format that will help students organize data in order to successfully solve a physics problem.

I teach basic high school Physics and this year will be the first year that I have to deal with the STAAR rather than the TAKS test and the formula chart or rather the "STAAR Reference Materials" has a few different formulas and is more complex than the old TAKS Formula Chart, so I was looking for some help with how to ask questions with some of the formulas to teach the kids. I happened upon this book and noticed it was written by a high school teacher at a high school near Dallas so I took a chance on it. I have written several test questions and formulated several worksheet questions from examples done in this book. The author breaks each and every formula down and gives at least three worked examples and word problems for each (even E=MC2, which the TAKS chart had but never asked about). SInce the State of Texas has yet to provide more than 10 sample questions and certainly not a full released test, I think this book is one of the best resources I have found so far. THe only reason that I gave it four stars instead of five, is that the author skims over how to set up the problems to cancel out the units, which may not be a big deal on the actual test if it is like the TAKS test used to be where all the answer choices had the same units on them. That being said, when teaching the kids, I don't want to just "teach to the test" and have them just ignore the units, but to know how to find the correct ones. I would still recommend the book though, I use it alot.Product details
